Repeating events
Repeat events daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or with a custom rule, and edit one, following or all occurrences.
Make an event repeat, and change or delete one occurrence, the rest of the series, or all of it.
Before you start: you need edit access to the calendar.
Make an event repeat
- In the event dialog open Repeat and pick one of:
- Does not repeat
- Every day
- Every weekday (Mon–Fri)
- Weekly on
- Monthly on day N
- Monthly on the <first/second/…/last>
- Every year on
- Custom…
- Under Ends choose Never, After a number of times (then Times, 1 to 10,000) or On a date (then Last date, included).
- Click Create event or Save.
Custom rules
Choose Custom… and write an iCalendar rule in Custom rule, for example FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=2;BYDAY=MO,TH.
Supported:
FREQ: DAILY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY, YEARLY (required).INTERVALfrom 1 to 1000.COUNT(1 to 10,000) orUNTIL, not both.BYDAY(with ordinals such as-1FRfor monthly or yearly rules),BYMONTHDAY,BYMONTH.WKST=MOonly.
Anything else is refused with a message such as recurrence: FREQ=… is not supported or recurrence: use COUNT or UNTIL, not both.
Times stay on the clock
A repeating event repeats on the wall clock of its time zone, so a 09:00 standup stays at 09:00 through daylight saving changes.
Change or delete one occurrence
Open an occurrence, click Edit or Delete, make your change. A dialog asks Apply to:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| This event | Only this occurrence changes. It becomes its own entry. For delete, this date is skipped. |
| This and following events | The series stops before this date and a new series starts here with your changes. |
| All events | The whole series changes. Times you set for one occurrence shift every occurrence by the same amount. |
The dialog title is Change repeating event or Delete repeating event. The buttons are Save or Delete.
Dragging a repeating event in the grid asks the same question.
Important: you cannot move a single occurrence to another calendar. Move the whole series instead.
Limits
A repeating event with no end keeps showing as far ahead as you look.
Troubleshooting
occurrence does not belong to this series Refresh the calendar and try again.
