Preview and download

Open images, PDFs, video, audio and text files in Drive, view details and download.

Open files in place without downloading them, step through a folder, and see details of a file.

Steps

  1. Click a file in a folder, Recent or Shared with me. The viewer opens with the file name as the title.
  2. Use the arrow buttons (Previous file / Next file) or the left and right arrow keys to move through the files of the folder.
  3. Click Details for file information, or Download to save the file.

What can be previewed

Kind How it shows
Images Inline.
PDF Inline.
Video and audio With play controls.
Text, code and CSV The contents, up to 512 KB.
Anything else "No preview for this file" with a download.

A text file over 512 KB shows "It is too large to show here — download it to open it." If the file cannot be loaded you see "Preview failed".

Details

Name, Type, Size (also in bytes), Location (space and folder), Modified and Checksum (SHA-256, with a copy button).

Download

Click Download in the viewer, in a row's menu, or in the selection bar (files only). HTML and SVG files always download rather than open inside Drive.

Grid thumbnails

In grid layout, image files show a small thumbnail (images up to 4 MB).

Troubleshooting

Download failed: The file may have been removed, or you lost access. Refresh and try again.
