Two-factor authentication

Turn on a code from an authenticator app as a second step at sign-in, and turn it off again.

With two-factor on, signing in with your password, a text code or Google also needs a 6-digit code from an authenticator app.

Before you start: Install an authenticator app (for example Google Authenticator or 1Password). You must have signed in within the last 10 minutes.

Turn it on

  1. Open Account security from your name menu.
  2. In Two-factor authentication, click Set up authenticator app.
  3. In Set up two-factor, scan the QR code with your app, or type the Manual entry key.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code in 6-digit code and click Verify & enable.
  5. Save your recovery codes. They are shown only once. Click Copy codes, store them safely, then click Done.

Important: Each recovery code works once and is shown only now. If you lose your authenticator and your codes, you cannot pass the second step.

Sign in afterwards

After your password or text code, enter the app code under Authentication code, or a recovery code. See Sign in.

Turn it off

  1. In Two-factor authentication, click Turn off two-factor.
  2. Enter a current code, or a recovery code, and click Turn off.

Tips

  • Passkey sign-ins do not ask for the code.
