GST returns
Build GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B for a month from your issued GST documents and download them as portal JSON, Excel or CSV.
GST returns builds GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B for a month from the GST documents you issued in Invoices & Payments. You review the figures on screen and download them to file on the GST portal yourself.
Before you start: you need Can view under Accounting ledger. The returns read issued documents of document types that use India — GST; drafts are never counted.
Open a return
- Open Accounting › Reports › GST returns.
- Pick GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B.
- Set the Month.
- If your business has more than one GSTIN (more than one business profile), pick it in GSTIN. Each GSTIN files its own return.
Every figure comes from the copy of the document frozen when it was issued — the customer's GSTIN, the place of supply, HSN/SAC codes and tax as they were on the invoice. Editing a customer later never changes a return.
GSTR-1
GSTR-1 shows four totals (Taxable value, IGST, CGST, SGST) and a tab per table:
| Tab | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| B2B | Invoices to registered customers (with a GSTIN), including SEZ. |
| B2C large | Inter-state invoices to unregistered customers above ₹1 lakh. |
| B2C small | Other sales to unregistered customers, summed by rate and place of supply. |
| Credit notes (registered) / Credit notes (unregistered) | Credit notes issued in the month. |
| Exports | Export invoices, with or without payment of tax. |
| Nil rated | Lines taxed at 0%. |
| HSN summary | Quantity, value and tax per HSN/SAC code and rate, split B2B and B2C. |
| Documents issued | Each number series with its first and last number, total and cancelled. |
A cancelled invoice appears only in Documents issued.
GSTR-3B
GSTR-3B shows:
- 3.1 Outward and reverse-charge inward supplies — taxable, zero-rated, nil-rated and non-GST outward supplies, and purchases on which you pay tax under reverse charge.
- 3.2 Inter-state supplies to unregistered persons — by place of supply.
- 4 Eligible ITC — input tax credit from your issued purchase bills, less debit notes.
- Tax payable — per tax head, before you set off credit on the portal.
Purchase bills marked Reverse charge count in 3.1(d) and in input credit. See TDS and reverse charge.
Download
| Button | Gives you |
|---|---|
| Portal JSON (GSTR-1 only) | A file for the GST offline tool or portal upload. It carries B2B, B2C large, B2C small, credit notes, exports and documents issued. |
| Excel | Every table of the return, one sheet each. |
| CSV | The tables as CSV. |
Important: The HSN summary and nil-rated supplies are not in the portal JSON. Enter them on the portal from the Excel file.
What is not covered yet
- Monthly returns only — no quarterly (QRMP) filing.
- No cess, amendments or debit notes you issue to customers.
- Up to 20,000 documents a month.
Filing stays with you and your tax adviser — AxisIQ prepares the figures, it does not file the return.
Troubleshooting
"No issued GST documents this month" The returns only read issued documents of GST document types. Issue the month's invoices in Invoices & Payments, or check the month and GSTIN.
A sale is under B2C instead of B2B The customer had no GSTIN on the invoice when it was issued. Raise a credit note and issue a new invoice with the GSTIN.
