Storage and indexes
See how much space each table uses, inspect columns and relationships, and add or remove indexes that speed up queries.
The query workspace doubles as a database tool. You can see how big your data is and add indexes to make filters and joins faster.
Before you start: viewing needs Can query & read. Creating or dropping indexes needs Full control on Analytics & reports.
See storage
- Open the Query workspace.
- Click Storage in the panel switcher under the editor, or click Database size at the bottom of the left rail. The rail also shows a row count beside each table.
- You see four numbers: Database size, Table data, Indexes and Rows stored.
- Below is a table of every table with Rows, Columns, Data, Indexes and Total with a share bar. Use Filter tables… or click a column heading to sort. Click a row to inspect it.
- A note may say how much more space sits in platform tables such as Drive metadata, Sheets grids and flow runs. Those are not queryable here but count towards your total.
Inspect a table
Click a table in the left rail. A tab named after it opens beside Results and Storage. The editor stays on screen.
- Header: Rows, Data, Indexes, Columns, plus system and memory badges where they apply.
- Preview data runs
SELECT * ... LIMIT 50. Count runs a row count. - Columns tab: Column, Type, and References with a link to the table it points to.
- Relationships tab: each link in either direction, labelled References or Referenced by. Join writes and runs a ready join query; Open inspects the other table.
- Indexes tab: described below.
Add an index
- Open the table's Indexes tab. Existing indexes list their Column and Kind.
- In Add index choose a column under Pick a column… and click Create index. You see "Index created".
- To remove one, click Drop, then confirm Drop index. Queries filtering on that column fall back to full scans.
Indexes you add are plain indexes that speed up filters and joins on one column. Rows marked unique show "managed by field rules": uniqueness is set on the field definition, so it cannot be changed here.
Tips
- Index columns you filter or join on often, such as a status, a date or a reference.
- Dropping a plain index is safe: you can create it again.
Troubleshooting
There is no Add index control Only people with Full control see it.
No indexes on this table yet. Nothing is indexed beyond what field rules require.
