Upload files and folders
Upload files or whole folders to a Drive space by picking or dragging them in.
Add files to a space by choosing them or dragging them in. Whole folders are supported.
Before you start: you need edit access to the space. Your own personal spaces always allow it. In shared spaces you need Can edit on Files, or a share with Can edit.
Steps
- Open the space and go to the folder where the files should land.
- Click New › Upload files and pick one or more files. Or click New › Upload a folder to upload a folder with its inner structure.
- Or drag files or a folder anywhere on the file area. You see "Drop to upload to ".
- Watch the progress panel at the bottom right: "Uploading 3 of 8…".
- When done you see "File uploaded" or "N files uploaded".
What happens next
- Files appear in the folder. Uploading a file with the same name in the same folder replaces it.
- The file type is taken from the file, or from its extension if the browser sent none. Unknown types are stored as generic files.
- A few files upload at the same time (four at once).
Limits
- Up to 50 MB per file by default. A larger file is refused with "file exceeds the upload limit (50 MB)".
- File paths are limited to 1024 bytes in total. Folder names cannot be empty, cannot contain
\, and cannot be.or...
Tips
- With nothing in a folder, the empty state offers an Upload files button.
- If some files fail you see "3/5 files uploaded — " in a warning. Upload the failed ones again.
Troubleshooting
There is no New button You only have view access to this space.
Upload failed — … The reason follows the dash, for example the size limit or missing permission.
