Suppressions and unsubscribe

Manage the list of addresses that can no longer be messaged, and understand how unsubscribe links work.

The suppression list protects your sending reputation. Addresses on it are never messaged, whichever way the message is sent.

Before you start: Viewing the list needs Messaging at Can view. Adding or removing addresses needs Full control.

What lands on the list

The Reason column shows one of:

  • bounce — the address could not be reached.
  • complaint — the recipient marked a message as spam.
  • unsubscribe — the recipient used an unsubscribe link.
  • manual — you added it yourself.

Bounces, complaints and unsubscribes arrive automatically. Every send is checked against the list first, so no flow, function or API call can get around it. A blocked message appears in Activity with the status Not sent.

See the list

Open Messaging › Suppressions. The table shows Address, Channel, Reason and Added. It loads more with Load more. With nothing on it, the page says "Nothing suppressed".

Add an address

  1. Click Add address.
  2. Choose the Channel: Email, SMS or WhatsApp.
  3. Enter the Address: an email address, or a phone number with the country code, such as +919876543210.
  4. Click Add. A toast says "Added to the suppression list".

Allow messages again

  1. Click Allow again beside the address.
  2. Confirm Allow again. The warning reminds you the address stopped for a reason, and sending to a bad address damages your own delivery rate.

Add {{.unsubscribe_url}} to an email template's HTML body for a one-click opt-out link. AxisIQ also adds the standard unsubscribe header to emails automatically, which lets mail apps show their own unsubscribe button.

When a recipient opens the link, they see a plain page asking "Stop sending messages to … ?" with an Unsubscribe button. Nothing happens until they click it, so a mail app that previews links cannot unsubscribe anyone by accident. After they click, the page confirms and the address joins your suppression list with the reason unsubscribe.

The link only works for that address in your workspace. It does not expire. SMS and WhatsApp messages have no link: their opt-outs are handled by the carrier's own STOP keyword.

Troubleshooting

Not sent The recipient is on the suppression list. Remove them if that was a mistake.
