Get an email when someone signs in from a new device

Turn sign-in alerts on or off and know what to do if a sign-in wasn't you.

We email you whenever your account is signed in from a browser or device we haven't seen before, so you can act quickly if it wasn't you.

Before you start: You only need to be signed in. Changing the setting asks you to confirm your password or sign-in again.

Turn the alert on or off

  1. Open Account and choose Where you're signed in.
  2. Find Sign-in alerts.
  3. Switch Email me about sign-ins from new devices on or off. It is on by default.

If the email wasn't you

  1. Click This wasn't me in the email.
  2. Under Where you're signed in, sign out every other session.
  3. Change your password and turn on two-factor authentication.

Good to know

  • The email shows the time (in your time zone), the browser and device, how you signed in and the IP address. It doesn't show a location.
  • Your first sign-in after creating an account never sends an email.
  • Clearing your browser's cookies makes that browser look new once.
  • You get at most one of these emails every 10 minutes.
