Edit together
See who else is in a workbook, where they are, and how simultaneous edits are handled.
Several people can edit the same workbook at once and see each other.
Before you start: everyone needs Can edit on Sheets to change cells. Can view people watch.
What you see
- Avatars in the top bar for each other person in the workbook. Hover them to see names.
- Each person's current cell is highlighted in their colour with a name tag.
- Their edits appear in your grid as they happen.
How edits are resolved
- Everyone can edit at the same time. There is no lock and nobody has to wait.
- If two people change the same cell, the last change wins.
- Structure changes (adding sheets, rows or columns) refresh everyone's view.
Tips
- Agree who edits which area when you work on the same sheet.
- Only your focus cell is shown to others, not your whole selection.
- If you are disconnected, the grid keeps refreshing on its own about every 15 seconds for record-linked sheets.
Troubleshooting
I do not see other people Presence shows only people who have the workbook open right now.
