Edit records in Sheets
Turn a record list into a spreadsheet, edit in bulk and push the changes back to your records.
Open a record type as a spreadsheet to edit many records quickly, then push the changes back.
Before you start: You need access to the Sheets app as well as the record permissions you would need to edit those records. Changes are written back under your own permissions.
Steps
- Open the record type's list.
- Click Edit in Sheets.
- Wait for the workbook to open. It is named after the type, for example
Customers records. - Edit cells in the grid.
- Click Push to records in the top bar to write the changes back.
After pushing you see a summary such as Updated 12 · created 3. If some rows fail it adds the first problem and its row number.
What happens
- The tab is linked to the record type. Each row is a record. Rows with an ID update that record. A row with no ID creates a new record, and its ID is filled in afterwards.
- Small edits can also reach the records as you type. For bigger changes, such as a large paste, use Push to records.
- Empty cells are left out when pushing, so pushing cannot clear a value. Clear values on the record form.
- Value rules are the same as for CSV import. See Import records from CSV.
- A very large type exports its first 10,000 records only. A message warns you:
Large data set — first 10,000 records exported.
Fix data quality problems
The same button is offered on a data quality problem as Fix in Sheets. See Data quality.
