AxisIQ vs Dynamics 365 Business Central

AxisIQ is a Dynamics 365 Business Central alternative set up by an AI in one conversation. Where Business Central and Copilot still win.

AxisIQ is a Dynamics 365 Business Central alternative for growing Indian companies that want one live system for orders, stock, customers and money, set up in a conversation rather than a partner project. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a mature ERP for small and mid-size companies, tightly integrated with Microsoft 365, localised for India including GST, TDS and TCS, with Copilot built in, and normally implemented through Microsoft partners. AxisIQ is a hosted platform where an AI builds the workspace from an interview with the owner, and an assistant called Axis answers questions and does work on the live records under each person's permissions. If your company lives in Microsoft tools and needs statutory depth, Business Central fits; if you want to be running in days with an assistant that does the operating, AxisIQ is the lighter choice.

Here is how they differ, starting with what Business Central does better.

Where Business Central wins

  • The Microsoft ecosystem. Business Central works with Outlook, Excel, Teams, Power BI and Power Automate. If your company already runs on Microsoft 365, that integration is a real advantage. AxisIQ has its own email, spreadsheet and analytics tools rather than Microsoft's.
  • Indian statutory localisation. Business Central is localised for India, including GST, TDS and TCS. AxisIQ has no GST e-invoicing, e-way bills, return filing or TDS, and no Tally sync.
  • Financial depth. A mature general ledger, multiple companies, consolidation, bank reconciliation, fixed assets and the reporting finance teams expect.
  • Manufacturing and service. The Premium tier adds manufacturing and service management. AxisIQ has no BOM explosion, MRP or production planning.
  • Partners and AppSource. Microsoft partners implement and support Business Central across India, and AppSource carries industry add-ons.
  • Certifications and trust. Microsoft's cloud carries the security certifications enterprise procurement asks for. AxisIQ holds no SOC 2 or ISO certification today.
  • Native mobile apps. Business Central has mobile apps; AxisIQ is a responsive web app with no offline mode.

The structural difference: a partner project versus a conversation

Business Central is sold as a subscription, but most companies do not configure it themselves. A partner scopes the processes, sets up the chart of accounts, posting groups, items, locations and dimensions, migrates data, builds any extensions in AL and trains the team. Reviewers often mention a steep learning curve, and later changes tend to go back to the partner.

In AxisIQ, the AI workspace builder does the setup. It interviews the owner about how the business runs, then builds the workspace: typically 7 to 10 apps and 25 to 45 record types with fields, roles, automations and a home dashboard, with optional example data to try before importing real records. You refine it by asking. The first 60 setup turns are free, and the person who owns a process can change its fields and flows later without a change request.

Modules versus one live model

Business Central is structured around its functional areas: finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, and in Premium, manufacturing and service. Its concepts, such as posting groups and dimensions, are powerful and also part of why it takes time to learn. Anything it does not model is added as an extension, built by a developer.

AxisIQ keeps one model made of your own record types, in your own words, beside built-in invoices, payments, the chart of accounts and locations. Every capability reads that model directly: search, filters, CSV import and export, analytics, permissions, flows, Axis Sheets and the assistant. A new field shows up in all of them at once, and adding one is a sentence to Axis rather than an extension.

Copilot versus an assistant that does the work

Copilot is included in Business Central and helps with tasks such as drafting text, suggesting entries and answering questions. Microsoft has also introduced agents for specific processes, such as sales orders and payables, which consume Copilot Credits. For a Business Central customer that is useful, so the difference is not whether there is AI.

The difference is scope and control. Axis is one assistant over the whole model, used in plain English. It answers ("what is stuck in packing for more than two days?"), runs analytics, and does the work across the platform: creating and updating records, adding fields and record types, drafting flows, generating PDF quotes and invoices, sending messages through your own providers, creating Razorpay payment links. It is bound by three rules:

  • It works as the person asking, under their role, down to individual fields.
  • Guarded actions stop for a "go ahead?" Money, outbound messages, invitations and destructive changes need an approval that covers exactly that action, once.
  • Every change is recorded in the append-only audit trail, like a person's edit.

When AxisIQ is not the right choice

  • Your company is built on Microsoft 365 and you want Teams, Outlook and Power BI wired into the ERP. Business Central is designed for that.
  • You need GST, TDS or TCS handled in the system, or e-invoicing and e-way bills. AxisIQ does none of these.
  • You manufacture and plan production, or need payroll and HR.
  • You consolidate several companies, or need automatic currency conversion.
  • Field staff work offline, or you need native mobile apps.
  • Procurement requires SOC 2 or ISO certification.
  • Business Central is implemented and your team is fluent in it. Moving then buys speed and an assistant; make sure that is worth the switch.

How switching from Business Central works

  1. Start a trial and talk to the workspace builder. Describe what your team does in Business Central and what still happens in Excel around it. The trial is 14 days and needs no card.
  2. Export lists. Business Central pages export to Excel, and configuration packages can export master data. Save customers, vendors, items and locations as CSV.
  3. Import in batches of up to 500 rows per file, with your field validation applied. Then bring open orders and open invoices. The CSV migration guide covers the order.
  4. Post opening balances to the double-entry ledger.
  5. Keep statutory work where it is. GST, TDS and filing stay in your accounting setup with your CA while operations move.
  6. Run a cycle in parallel, reconcile, then switch.

FAQ

What is a simpler alternative to Dynamics 365 Business Central? AxisIQ is one: an AI builds the workspace from a conversation with the owner, and the Axis assistant answers questions and changes records under each user's permissions. It covers orders, stock, customers, invoices, payments and reporting, but not statutory compliance, manufacturing, payroll or multi-company consolidation.

Do I need a Microsoft partner to use AxisIQ? No. There is no partner channel. The workspace builder sets up apps, record types, roles, automations and a dashboard, and you make later changes yourself or by asking Axis.

How does Axis compare with Copilot in Business Central? Copilot assists inside Business Central, and Microsoft's process agents handle specific tasks such as sales orders and payables. Axis is a single assistant over the whole AxisIQ model that answers, builds and acts, always as the asking person, with single-use confirmations before money, messages or destructive changes, and every change in the audit trail.

Does AxisIQ handle GST and TDS like Business Central? No. AxisIQ keeps invoices, payments and a double-entry ledger with a trial balance, but it does not calculate GST, TDS or TCS, or produce e-invoices, e-way bills or returns. Keep those in your accounting system.

Can AxisIQ work with Excel? Yes, through Axis Sheets: import and export XLSX, edit with others live, and link a sheet to records so edits flow back under the editor's permissions. It does not integrate with Microsoft 365 itself.
