AxisIQ vs ERPNext

AxisIQ is an ERPNext alternative that builds your workspace from a conversation, with an AI assistant that does the work. Where each one fits.

AxisIQ is an ERPNext alternative for growing Indian companies that want to run orders, stock, customers and money on one live system without first running an implementation project. ERPNext, built by Frappe, is free and open-source ERP with strong Indian GST localisation, manufacturing and HR, which you configure and customise yourself or through a partner. AxisIQ is a hosted platform: an AI interviews you and builds the workspace in a single conversation, and an assistant called Axis then answers questions and does real work on your records under each person's permissions. ERPNext covers more ground and handles statutory compliance; AxisIQ fits your business faster and takes more of the daily operating off your team.

That is the short answer. The rest of this page is the longer one, including the cases where ERPNext is plainly the better choice.

Where ERPNext wins

ERPNext has real strengths, and several of them are things AxisIQ does not do at all.

  • Indian compliance. GST-ready invoicing and the India localisation that has grown up around it, including e-invoicing and e-way bill support. AxisIQ has no GST e-invoicing, no e-way bills, no return filing and no TDS.
  • Manufacturing. Bills of materials, work orders, production planning and material requests. For a factory, this is the core of the system. AxisIQ has no BOM explosion, MRP or production planning.
  • HR and payroll. Employees, leave, attendance and salary through Frappe HR. AxisIQ has none of these.
  • Open source and self-hosting. You can read the code, change it, and run it on a server you control, or pay Frappe Cloud to host it. AxisIQ is a hosted service only, with no self-managed edition.
  • A framework for developers. If you have people who write Python, Frappe lets them build new document types and whole apps on the same base. Partners across India do this work for a living.
  • Accounting depth. Multi-company books, bank reconciliation and a long tail of accounting reports that a full ERP has had years to accumulate.

If GST e-invoicing, a factory floor or payroll is the reason you are shopping, ERPNext deserves a serious look, and nothing below should talk you out of it.

The structural difference: a project versus a conversation

Choosing ERPNext is the small decision. What follows it is the work: mapping your process onto ERPNext's standard documents, setting up item groups, warehouses, price lists, naming series and accounts, writing custom fields and scripts for what does not fit, then training people on the result. A capable in-house person can do this; many companies hire a partner. Either way it is a project measured in weeks or months, and customisations then have to survive each upgrade, which is a common complaint in ERPNext reviews.

In AxisIQ, the AI workspace builder interviews the owner about how the business actually runs, then builds the workspace: typically 7 to 10 apps, 25 to 45 record types with their fields, roles for each kind of person, automations and a home dashboard, with optional example data so you can try it before importing anything real. You review it, change what is wrong by asking, and invite the team. The first 60 setup turns are free.

Standard documents versus your own model

ERPNext keeps its modules in one database, so it does not suffer the integration seams of a suite of separate apps. The difference is whose model it is. ERPNext gives you its documents: Sales Order, Item, Stock Entry, Delivery Note. Your process is adapted to them, or they are customised to fit your process.

AxisIQ starts from your vocabulary. If your business has dispatch slots, consignment notes, service visits or dye lots, those become record types with your field names. Built-in types cover invoices, payments, the chart of accounts and locations. Because there is only one model, everything built on it picks up a new type or field the moment it exists: search, filters, CSV import and export, analytics, permissions, flows and the assistant. There is no second place to register it.

AI: none built in versus an assistant that does the work

ERPNext ships no meaningful native AI. Partners and community developers bolt on LLM add-ons, and how well those respect ERPNext's permissions depends on who built them.

Axis is part of the platform. Ask it "which customers are over 60 days on dues?" and it queries the live records. Ask it to create a purchase order, add a field, draft a flow or send a payment link, and it does the work rather than describing how you could. Three rules make that safe:

  • It acts as the person asking. Axis runs under that person's role, down to individual fields. A warehouse user cannot use it to see margins their role hides.
  • Guarded actions stop and ask. Anything involving money, outbound messages, invitations or destructive changes ends with a "go ahead?" question. The approval covers exactly that action, once.
  • Everything is recorded. Every change Axis makes lands in the same append-only audit trail as a person's.

When AxisIQ is not the right choice

Be honest with yourself about these, because no amount of convenience makes up for them:

  • You need GST e-invoicing, e-way bills or returns from the same system. AxisIQ does none of them, and there is no Tally sync either. Most AxisIQ customers would keep statutory filing with their existing accounting tool and CA.
  • You make things and need to plan production. You can track jobs through stages with work queues, but that follows work rather than planning materials for it.
  • You run payroll in-house. There is no HR, attendance or payroll module.
  • You must self-host, or you want the source code. AxisIQ is only available as a hosted service, and it is not open source.
  • Your staff work offline or need a native mobile app. AxisIQ is a responsive web app with no offline mode.
  • ERPNext already works for you. If it is implemented, your team knows it and someone maintains it well, moving costs real time and buys mostly speed and an assistant. That may not be enough.

How switching from ERPNext works

  1. Start a trial and describe the business. Tell the workspace builder what you used ERPNext for and what never fitted. It builds record types in your language rather than copying ERPNext's documents one for one. The trial is 14 days and needs no card.
  2. Export from ERPNext. ERPNext's report and data export tools produce CSV files. Start with the reference data: customers, suppliers, items, locations.
  3. Import into AxisIQ. CSV import takes up to 500 rows per file, with your field validation applied, so larger lists go in batches. Then bring open orders and outstanding invoices. The CSV migration guide covers the order.
  4. Set opening balances. Post them to the double-entry ledger as opening entries. Posted entries are immutable; corrections are reversals.
  5. Run in parallel for a cycle. Keep GST filing where it is today, and switch day-to-day operations once the team trusts the numbers.

If you would rather see it on your own process first, book a demo.

FAQ

Is there an ERPNext alternative that does not need an implementation partner? Yes. AxisIQ builds the workspace from an AI interview with the owner, typically 7 to 10 apps and 25 to 45 record types with roles and automations, so there is no configuration project to commission. The trade-off is that AxisIQ covers less than ERPNext: no manufacturing planning, HR, payroll or GST e-invoicing.

Does AxisIQ handle GST like ERPNext? No. AxisIQ records invoices and payments and keeps a double-entry ledger, but it does not generate GST e-invoices, e-way bills or returns, and it does not calculate TDS. Companies using AxisIQ keep statutory compliance in their accounting tool or with their CA.

Is AxisIQ open source like ERPNext? No. AxisIQ is a hosted service. Each organisation gets its own isolated database, encrypted at rest and in transit, hosted in India, and you can export your records as CSV at any time.

Does ERPNext have AI? Not meaningfully in the core product. AI in ERPNext usually comes from partner or community add-ons. AxisIQ's assistant, Axis, is built in, works on live records under each user's permissions and asks before guarded actions.

Can I move from ERPNext to AxisIQ without losing data? Your records can move as CSV exports, imported up to 500 rows per file, with balances posted as opening ledger entries. Anything AxisIQ does not model, such as payroll history or manufacturing records, stays in ERPNext or in your archive.
