Import and export
Import CSV into a sheet, export a sheet as CSV, and export a whole workbook as Excel.
Bring data into a workbook from CSV or Excel files and take it out again.
Before you start: importing a CSV into a workbook needs Can edit. Creating a workbook from Excel needs Full control. Exporting needs Can view.
Import a CSV as a new sheet
- Open the workbook.
- Click Import CSV in the tab strip and choose a
.csvfile. - A new sheet is added, named after the file.
How it works:
- The first row is the header and becomes the column labels. An empty header cell gets its column letter.
- Column types are guessed from up to 200 values: Number, Date, Checkbox (TRUE or FALSE) or Text.
- A value that cannot be read into its column is left empty. The import does not stop.
Import an Excel file as a new workbook
See Create and import workbooks.
Export a sheet as CSV
Open the sheet's tab menu › Export CSV. The file is named after the sheet. Row one holds the column labels. Formula cells export their results.
Export the whole workbook as Excel
Click Export .xlsx in the top bar. The file includes values and formula sources so Excel can recalculate.
