AxisIQ vs accounting software: what to run beyond the books

AxisIQ runs operations, analytics and an AI assistant beside your accounting software. No GST filing or sync, so most teams keep it for the books.

AxisIQ is not a replacement for statutory accounting software: it does not generate GST e-invoices, e-way bills or GST returns, it does not do TDS or payroll, and it does not sync with any accounting package. What it replaces is everything that has grown up around the accounting software in a company of 15 to 200 people — the order sheets, the stock counts on WhatsApp, the reports rebuilt in a spreadsheet every Monday — with one live system the whole team uses in a browser, and an assistant, Axis, that answers questions and does work on that data. Most growing companies that choose AxisIQ keep their accounting software, or their CA's tool, for the books and returns, and run the rest of the business on AxisIQ.

That split is the honest answer to "accounting software alternative", and the rest of this page explains where the line falls.

Where accounting software wins

Desktop and statutory accounting software is very good at what it was built for, and for most Indian businesses it is the right place for the books.

  • GST compliance. E-invoicing with an IRN, e-way bills, GST returns and TDS are what this category exists to do, kept current as the rules change and trusted by auditors.
  • Your CA already knows it. Accountants work in this kind of software every day. Handing over books in a format they already use costs nobody any effort.
  • Fast bookkeeping. For an experienced operator, keyboard-driven voucher entry is extremely quick.
  • Maturity. Long-established accounting products come with deep statutory reporting and wide familiarity among accountants and support providers.

AxisIQ has no GST filing, no e-invoicing, no e-way bills, no TDS and no payroll. If those are what you are shopping for, a compliance-first accounting product is the answer, and nothing below changes that.

Accounting software vs AxisIQ: what each is for

Typical accounting software AxisIQ
Core job Books, vouchers, GST compliance Running operations on one live model of the company
GST e-invoice, e-way bill, returns Yes No
Sync with your accounting package — No (exchange data by CSV)
Who uses it Accountants and a few operators The whole team — office, warehouse, counter, field
Where people use it Often installed on office machines Any browser, on a laptop or phone, no install
Your own record types (jobs, batches, service visits…) Limited to what the accounting model allows Any type you define, with fields, validation and numbering
Questions about the business Built-in reports, then a spreadsheet Ask Axis in plain English, or build dashboards
An assistant that takes actions Not the category's job Yes, under each person's own permissions
Permissions Built around the accounts team Roles per app, down to individual fields, with an audit trail

What AxisIQ does differently

The team works in a browser, from anywhere. AxisIQ is a hosted web app. A sales head on the road, a warehouse lead on the floor and a founder at home see the same live records, with no VPN and no remote desktop. It is a responsive web app rather than a native mobile app, and it needs a connection — there is no offline mode.

Operations get a home beyond the books. Accounting software records what happened to money and stock. The work that leads up to it — an order being picked, a job moving through the workshop, a return being inspected — usually lives in spreadsheets and chat. In AxisIQ that work has its own records and stages:

  • Orders, customers, suppliers and stock items as your own record types, with the fields your business actually tracks.
  • Work queues with barcode scan stations, so picking, packing and dispatch are scanned through stages and you can see what is missing.
  • Forms that write straight into records — a field team's visit report, a dealer's order request.
  • In-store checkout with cash, card and UPI, barcode scanning and receipts, for companies with a counter.
  • Payment links through your Razorpay account, settled automatically into payment records.

Axis answers questions and does the work. Ask Axis works over your live records. "Which customers have invoices more than 30 days overdue?", "What sold most in Pune last month?", "Create a follow-up task for each of them" — it runs the query, shows the result and makes the changes. It acts only under the permissions of the person asking, and anything that moves money, messages someone or deletes data stops with a "go ahead?" before it runs. Every change it makes is in the audit trail.

Reports stop being a spreadsheet job. Analytics gives every person a home dashboard of tables, charts and figures that refresh from live data. Ask a question in English and Axis writes the query; the result can be pinned to a report.

Permissions reach individual fields. A warehouse user can see an order without its margin; a sales rep can see their own customers' balances and nobody else's. Roles are set app by app in plain words, and every record change is logged with who made it and the value before and after.

How the two work together

The arrangement most companies settle on:

  1. Your accounting software stays the book of record — GST invoices, e-way bills, returns, TDS, the ledger your CA audits.
  2. AxisIQ runs the operation — orders, stock movements, jobs, collections follow-up, approvals, analytics and the assistant.
  3. Data crosses on a schedule you control. There is no accounting-package integration, so the hand-off is CSV: export what the accountant needs from AxisIQ (up to 10,000 rows per export) and import it into the books, or bring masters across into AxisIQ (up to 500 rows per import file). The CSV migration guide covers the mechanics.

AxisIQ does have its own double-entry ledger — immutable entries, reversals, a trial balance, exact decimal arithmetic — plus invoices and payments as records. Some companies use it for management accounts alongside their accounting software. It does not post invoices to the ledger automatically, and it is not a GST compliance tool.

Run both in parallel for at least one full month-end before you change anything your accountant depends on. The outgrown accounting software guide sets out the order of moves.

When to choose which

Stay with accounting software alone when:

  • Accounting and GST are the whole problem. If what you need is faster billing and cleaner returns, a better accounting product solves it; AxisIQ would add a second system for no gain.
  • You need automatic sync to the books. If the books must update the moment an order is booked, without anyone moving a file, AxisIQ cannot do it today.
  • Payroll, attendance or manufacturing planning is the gap. There is no payroll, HR, bill of materials or production planning in AxisIQ.
  • Connectivity is unreliable. A browser-based system with no offline mode is a poor fit where the internet regularly drops for hours.
  • The team is three people. If one person runs the books and two run the shop, accounting software plus a shared sheet is probably enough.

Add AxisIQ when:

  • More than a handful of people need to see or change the same information, and not all of them sit in the office.
  • The real work of the business — orders, stock, jobs, dispatch, collections — lives outside the accounting software in sheets and chat.
  • Someone spends hours each week turning accounting exports into reports.
  • You want permissions that stop people seeing what they should not, and a record of who changed what.
  • You want an assistant that answers from your actual data and can act on it, rather than a chatbot guessing from a pasted spreadsheet.

Setup does not need an implementation partner: the AI workspace builder interviews you about the business and builds the apps, record types, roles and a home dashboard in one session. There is a 14-day trial with no card on signup, or book a demo to walk through how the hand-off to your books would work.

FAQ

Is AxisIQ an alternative to accounting software? For operations, analytics and team-wide work, yes. For GST e-invoicing, e-way bills, returns and TDS, no — AxisIQ does none of those. Most companies keep their accounting software (or their CA's tool) for statutory accounting and run the rest of the business on AxisIQ.

Accounting software vs ERP: what is the difference? Accounting software keeps the books, often with inventory and GST compliance. An ERP-style system covers the operations around the books — orders, stock movements, jobs, approvals, reporting — for the whole team. AxisIQ covers that operational layer, with an AI assistant, but not GST compliance.

What comes after accounting software for a growing business? Usually not a replacement but an addition: keep the accounting software for the books and returns, and move the work that has spilled into spreadsheets and chat — orders, stock, approvals, reports — into a system everyone can use.

Does AxisIQ sync with my accounting software? No. There is no connector or sync with any accounting package. Data moves by CSV: AxisIQ exports up to 10,000 rows at a time and imports up to 500 rows per file.

Can AxisIQ generate GST invoices? It creates invoices as records and renders them as PDFs from your own templates, including GST lines you model. It does not generate e-invoices with an IRN, e-way bills or GST returns.

Will my CA be able to work with AxisIQ? Your CA keeps working in their own tool. AxisIQ exports the records they need as CSV, and you can give an accountant a role that sees only invoices, payments and the ledger.
